I am only just starting out (in Chapter 3) but am anxious to delve deeper with my study group (mathgroup57@gmail.com). Examples are clear accompanied by very clear figures which illustrate material that can, at times be pedagogically sophisticated. A plus for anyone who encounters non-linear dynamics either by necessity or curiosity. Graduate Students, a suggestion: Read as much of this as you can between your Linear and NON-Linear ODE courses. You'll be glad you did! (My intent was to review the text. It appears than I have reviewed the Solutions Manual which I have yet to open.)
Math is tough for me and I don't know about you but I have this smart physics friend that I rely on for any math stuff. I freaked out for this class when my physics friend had trouble helping me. When that happened I said maybe this was worth a shot and ordered it and with that he could help me again. He made Math make a lot more sense after ours chats. It seemed so much easier after we finally figured it out. Isn't math great that way. :pPROS:Some of the problems assigned were already in there, so that was nice.Useful if you learn by doing. We're just walking through as many of the problems as I can and it helps to have this to check our work.Really nice graphs, which are good for a visual person like me.CONS:Only has solutions to odd problems. (It does say that in the description though.)We usually had to reread the Strogatz section to figure out steps.The kindle version equations are different sizes. I asked for a refund and ordered the paperback.Overall, 4 stars for the paperback, lower for the kindle version messed up equations. Not perfect but way better off with it than without it.
This book is so useless. Only half of the problems are in it, and it skips over steps. If you're looking for answers, it probably there's a 50% chance have them. If you want explanations, you will not get them. Better to search on line for specific answers.
This was a life saver because my TA and professor super sucked. I would try to practice by solving other problems and go to office hours when I got stuck. Waste of time in the beginning becuase the professor and TA usually won't show me how to do the problem. He just said like, "I can't do everything for you." Partway into the semester I bought this thing, and they couldn't say that after I would bring in a solution from it. Then he would explain it to me. I think he didn't know how solve some of the harder problems/didn't want to actually spend time solving any problems. (I swear, the TA/professor just like copy the equations from the book on the board and for homework use what students handed in to figure out the correct answer.)
Good very old film restored for DVD with very good period actors. Recommended particularly for combat pilots who want to experience what it was like in the early days of flight.
I got the digital version and some solutions were not fully completed. For some solutions they don't even provide the solution and just literally said "...bifurcation will occur when and , which gives us two equations to solve..." without answering "when" and the "and" parts. This solution manual is nowhere near complete.
It had the answers but there were no explanation or if there were explanation, it would be vague. Spent more time figuring out what the solution manual said than doing the hw
Be aware that you will not get solutions to every problem in the book. But otherwise, it is really well written like the book itself.
