I bought this book because I had previously read Oakley's "A Mind For Numbers" (AMFN) and absolutely loved it. This book is her second and it is weak compared to AMFN. This book is chock full of anecdotes. Long, repetitive anecdotes. AMFN is succinct and full of very constructive steps. Mindshift has very few useful nuggets. It is more like a cheerleader urging you on to make changes. Buy "A Mind For Numbers" and borrow this one from the library if you must read it.
I completed the Mindshift course on Coursera. It was a great course on Coursera. The Mindshift book is a companion to the course. I bought the book along with audio format. I listened to the audiobook while commuting to work. I love Barbara's voice as she narrated the book. Highly recommended to everyone who wants to have a lifelong learning journey. I wished I could have this book while I was in college. Not too late for now.Cons: None

Combined, the book gives you the opportunity to truly experience a mindshift that will boost your career, accelerate your learning abilities and make both compound in value as you go through life.I highly recommmend Mindshift to anyone concerned about their education and anyone who wants to be prepared to learn fast and make shifts as change around the world continues to grow as the only constant.
Many of the things Oakley writes about were becoming known a few decades ago, when the chapters in my high school psychology textbook on "how to study better" got me so excited that I chose psychology for my career. But Oakley is a gifted teacher and cites some pretty useful and new neuroscience, and lays out a very organized program for developing one's study skills. I've bought the book for my granddaughter, now entering high school, and she was excited. Highly recommended.

The author changed from being a linguist to being an engineer mastering mathematics a skill she did not think she any aptitude for. If you've taken either of Oakley's online courses, you know exactly what to expect with this.It covers exactly the same material as the MOOC with the same title, namely: inspiration for lifelong learning, gentle nudges to go outside mental comfort zones, a huge variety of tips for learning, and just enough neuroscience to provide scientific support for the material.The book does contain additional examples and material that was not covered in the MOOC and some of these were the most interesting to me personally.
